IMPROVED WIND DRAG FORMULATION FOR NUMERICAL STORM WAVE AND SURGE MODELING

چکیده
The study proposes an enhanced method of computing wind drag coefficient (Cd) for extreme hurricane conditions which can be applied to precisely estimate the induced storm wave and surge. Thirty different tropical cyclone/hurricane were chosen modeled using Wave Boundary Layer Model (WBLM) Cd based on air-sea interaction concept are then subjected polynomial regression with speed as independent dependent variable. An improved (IWD) (cubic function) that matches WBLM's pattern at all simulated speeds was established. To evaluate performance IWD method, it used simulate surge levels Hurricanes Katrina, Rita Michael, along two other widely methods (Garratt, 1977 Zijlema et al., 2012). Michael their intensity, they landfall regions also field data availability. simulations carried out a coupled model compute heights water levels, further compared validated measurements. A detailed analysis results conveys fact proposed performs better than in accurate estimation significant peak levels. Hence, recommends up 90 m/s.

Using Wind Setdown and Storm Surge on Lake Erie to Calibrate the Air-Sea Drag Coefficient
The air-sea drag coefficient controls the transfer of momentum from wind to water. In modeling storm surge, this coefficient is a crucial parameter for estimating the surge height. This study uses two strong wind events on Lake Erie to calibrate the drag coefficient using the Coupled Ocean Atmosphere Wave Sediment Transport (COAWST) modeling system and the the Regional Ocean Modeling System (RO...
متن کاملStorm surge scenarios for Hamburg
Abstract A scenario for future storm surge heights for the tide gauge of Hamburg St. Pauli is constructed on the basis of results from a regional model for Cuxhaven. Under the A2 emission scenario, an increase of the mean annual maximum water level of about 0.1724 m appears possible and plausible for the time horizon of 2030. In Cuxhaven, an increase of 0.14 may be expected in this scenario. In...
متن کاملA parabolic model of drag coefficient for storm surge simulation in the South China Sea
Drag coefficient (Cd) is an essential metric in the calculation of momentum exchange over the air-sea interface and thus has large impacts on the simulation or forecast of the upper ocean state associated with sea surface winds such as storm surges. Generally, Cd is a function of wind speed. However, the exact relationship between Cd and wind speed is still in dispute, and the widely-used formu...
متن کاملA High-Resolution Coupled Riverine Flow, Tide, Wind, Wind Wave, and Storm Surge Model for Southern Louisiana and Mississippi. Part I: Model Development and Validation
A coupled system of wind, wind wave, and coastal circulation models has been implemented for southern Louisiana and Mississippi to simulate riverine flows, tides, wind waves, and hurricane storm surge in the region. The system combines the NOAA Hurricane Research Division Wind Analysis System (H*WIND) and the Interactive Objective Kinematic Analysis (IOKA) kinematic wind analyses, the Wave Mode...
